THE GOOD GUYS AND THE BAD

You can’t tell the good guys from the bad guys
You can’t tell the righteous from the rats
We used to be so sure
Our hearts were brave and pure
We took such pride in being democrats

Now we all sit on the fence
Buggered by ambivalence
No one knows what move to make
No one knows which side to take

You can’t tell the good guys from the bad guys
You can’t spot the spoilers any more
The heroes of the left
Are stained by greed and theft
The other lot are rotten to the core

Once we knew which side was right
Black was black and white was white
We’re so well informed today
Everything’s a shade of grey

Today everybody’s got an angle
You can’t tell a hero from a heel
The country’s going bust
There’s no one you can trust
When everybody’s looking for a deal

And everybody triple locks their door
’Cause you can’t tell the good guys
From the bad guys any more
